Gumboot Friday
Aloha Bloggers and welcome back to my blog! Last Friday was an awesome day it was Gumboot Friday. Gumboot Friday is all about Fundraising for Mental health. Everyone in New Zealand is encouraged to where Gumboots on Gumboot day. It is called Gumboot Friday because Mike King said when you have Mental health it is like you are wading through mud. Mike King is aiming to raise $2 million for Gumboot day and has raised 836,000 for Gumboot day. Mike King won New Zealander of the year in 2018. At school we made nice cards for Mental Health on Gumboot Friday. On the cards we had to write a uplifting quote or something kind on it. We also had to draw a little symbols on the front of the to make it look nice and as a little decoration. Also we had to write on the back of the card supporting Mental health. Then we would write from Senior Syndicate and at the bottom of that Waikowhai Primary School. We got the idea of writing cards and putting them in letter boxes when some of the students in the Senior Syndicate were chosen to fill in a little booklet. The Puketapapa booklet questionnaire had some questions about what we should do to help more and do more things for and some students chose Mental Health. Underneath that was what we could do more and you could write what you think we all should do more about that topic you chose. One of the girls who did the booklet her name was Neeve she chose Mental health and she wrote we could write cards and put them in letter boxes. The teachers read it and thought it was a good idea. And that's where we got our idea from.
This was a very good thing to do because it is related to our inquiry topic this year. Our Inquiry topic is Hauora-Wellbeing it relates to our inquiry topic because it lifts people's spirits and people are happy after they read the notes. Wellbeing is is about you and how you feel and the cards had nice and positive comments and quotes so that could lift other people's spirits. We all split in to about 8 groups and we went different ways to hand out the cards to random houses. One group went down Quona Ave and our old Deputy Principal Mrs Sarah Ellen lives down that road and we put a card in her letter box and when she saw it that made her day and she emailed the school and said she was very grateful for the card and she said thank you to the Waikowhai Primary School Senior Syndicate. We also put it in another card about Mental Health in someone's mailbox and her son read the card and that little card brightened up her son and changed him. One little act of kindness can change a person!
One word can change someone's entire day.
